Town Topic

No discussion of late-night spots in Kansas City can start without mentioning Town Topic. The establishment is a longstanding landmark of the area, having first opened for business in 1937.

Town Topic is best known for a burger menu featuring smashburgers and the locally-famous haystack sandwich. They serve egg, hashbrowns, cheese, and your choice of sausage, ham, or bacon on Texas toast. They serve breakfast all day, although their incredible biscuits and gravy are usually only available in the morning.

They also serve plenty of traditional diner comfort foods, such as delicious chili, fries, shakes, and malts, for customers to enjoy. The location in the Crossroads Arts District at 20th and Broadway is open 24/7, so be sure to stop by if you need a snack at any time. 

Town Topic

Yard House

The Yard House on 1300 Main Street offers a variety of craft foods combining classic American dishes and fusion flavors inspired by cultures around the world to make tasty pasta dishes, nachos, and more. The beer menu is similarly expansive, featuring craft beers, cocktails, and exciting imports on draft and by the bottle.

Their new American menu has everything from blackened ahi tuna sashimi and onion ring towers to their massive burgers. Their Kurobuta pork burger is a fun take on a classic, with arugula, spicy candied bacon, and blueberry ketchup made in-house to take this burger to the next level.

The Yard House's location in the Downtown Power and Light District also makes the restaurant easily accessible along the Kansas City streetcar route. The Yard House is open until midnight from Sunday to Thursday, but extends its hours on Friday and Saturday until 1:20 AM. 

The Peanut

As the oldest bar and grill in KC, The Peanut is another living piece of history that doubles as a great option for late-night food in Kansas City. At both locations in South Plaza and Downtown, the menu is filled with great sandwiches, wings, salads, and other appetizers to fill your empty stomach.

Their hot wings are a common choice, and you can combine them with fries or onion rings. You can also order them by the dozen if you’re out with friends or especially hungry. Consider upgrading your fries to cheese or chili cheese fries for the best comfort food meal in the area!

They also serve brunch on Sundays. The Peanut is open until 1:30 AM Monday to Saturday and until midnight on Sundays. 

Beer Kitchen

Beer Kitchen is Kansas City's first gastropub, delivering a unique experience in the city. The restaurant, situated in the heart of Westport, offers a late-night happy hour, with select drinks on special from 11 PM to 1 AM. They also have brunch on the weekends, when you can enjoy their Drunken Doughnuts, smothered in boozy chocolate sauce.

The standard menu includes zucchini fries, large burgers made from short rib and brisket served on egg buns, several tasty chicken sandwich options, and even tacos. Pop in for a late meal at Beer Kitchen, and you'll have yourself a good time. 

Go Chicken Go

Go Chicken Go has been selling fresh and flavorful fried chicken to the Kansas City community since 1969. Each location in Troost and Northland serves up scrumptious chicken in several forms, including hand-breaded strips, gizzards, chicken wraps, chicken sandwiches, and wings, with multiple sides and a slice of cheesecake to further improve your evening meal.

The Troost Go Chicken Go is open until 11 PM from Sunday to Thursday and until 1 AM on Friday and Saturday. For the Northland location, guests are welcome until 10 PM on  Sunday through Thursday and midnight on the weekends. 

Moretina's Caddy Shack

Moretina's Caddy Shack (700 E 3rd St.) is a family-owned restaurant that serves great, Sicilian-style thin-crust pizza. This comfortable sports bar atmosphere is the ideal place to catch a game. They even offer packages for major game days. They make their sauce in-house using a secret family recipe.

Moretina’s Caddy Shack is open late into the night, not closing until 1:30 AM Sunday-Wednesday and 2 AM Thursday-Saturday. Pizza is the signature draw, but the menu also includes great wings, toasted ravioli, jalapeño poppers, and plenty of other fine appetizers.  For planning to eat even after this late-night establishment closes, getting a take-and-bake pizza to make fresh at home is a great option!

Walnut Creek is amazing! The staff is so incredibly helpful, they are so quick to answer any and all questions that I have. The amenities are great, I absolutely love the pool! Update Feb. 2025: I just signed my 4 year lease & still enjoy residing here! Want to add that management has an event scheduled monthly for us residents. For this month, we are having a wine tasting and strawberry bar, in Jan. it was pizza & board games. I’m always looking excited for our summer pool & bbq party! Also, our weight room has a brand new makeover with new equipment and fresh paint! So many amenities here including a dog park & pickleball court too!
